Shiva Tandava Stotra is a devotional hymn dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the three primary deities in Hinduism. The stotra (hymn) describes how Lord Shiva performed the cosmic dance called 'Tandavam' after killing Andha Daksha's sons and others during the period known as 'Satarudra Samvata'.

The stotra is attributed to the demon king Ravana, who was a huge devotee of Lord Shiva. According to legend, Ravana had once worshipped Lord Shiva for 108 years with complete devotion and dedication. Impressed by his devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before him in the form of 'Linga' (lingam) and asked what he wanted as a reward.

Ravana humbly requested that Lord Shiva teach him the secrets behind creation, maintenance, and destruction of this universe. Moved by Ravana's request, Lord Sh Shivadevahasthasanathar revealed to him all these secrets through his left hand while holding his right-hand axe (gada) in his other hand.

Later on when Lord Vishnu wanted to kill Andhakasura demon then he came across this stotra which was being recited by Garuda bird. Impressed with the powerful mantra, Lord Vishauravished it upon him so that he could defeat any evil forces using its divine power.

Today too many devotees around world sing and chant these sacred lines hoping to get peace of mind alongwith protection from negative energies surrounding us at all times!
